Season 2

Lainey, Erica and Barry plan a big party while Lainey's father is out of town. Murray is annoyed by the amount of time Adam spends on the phone talking to Dana.

Beverly asks Miss Cinoman to let Adam -- who is going through puberty -- lip sync in the school musical. Murray inspires Erica to go to the homecoming dance with Geoff Schwartz.

Murray's attempt at bonding with Adam goes awry when the two end up fighting over the robot they are building. Barry makes a huge mistake when he accidentally tapes over Beverly's beloved video of his 5th birthday party.

Adam, who's embarrassed by his changing body, is desperate to get out of swimming in gym class; and Erica tries to create her identity at school by starting a club that, to her dismay, Barry joins.

Upset by Barry's insecurity in their relationship, Lainey sets out to teach him a lesson with Erica's help. However, the situation turns into something totally different and Barry goes to school dressed like Boy George hoping it will change. Meanwhile, Beverly doesn't approve Murray's new mustache so she shaves it off but it backfires.

Adam chooses to spend Halloween night with Dana rather than Beverly, who decides to teach her son a lesson about the dangers of the holiday. Adam regrets taking Barry and Erica's advice to visit a haunted house when he's expected to go back inside to find Dana's lost promise ring.

Barry's dream of having a dog comes true, but he's disappointed when the pup takes an immediate liking to Murray. Beverly is upset not to be included when Erica and Lainey plan a girls-only sleepover.

Beverly insists the entire family gather for the holiday, but tension builds when brother-in-law Marvin tricks Pop-Pop into thinking Thanksgiving was at his house.Meanwhile, Pops passes the torch to Barry and Erica to give the holiday toast, resulting in them trying to one-up each other.

Disappointed with her unenthusiastic family during the holidays, Beverly creates “Super Hanukkah” to get them into the spirit but it’s too similar to Christmas. Meanwhile, Adam is annoyed that Barry is more interested in hanging with Lainey than him, so he triple-dog dares his brother with results neither one see coming.

As Adam and Barry team up in a rap supergroup a la the Beastie Boys, Beverly presses Murray to let her remodel their kitchen.

Beverly volunteers for Hands Across America in hopes of getting closer to Barry and Erica. Adam gets himself into a sticky situation when he promises to take his best friend and his girlfriend, Dana, to the school dance.

Adam and Emmy's favorite TV game show holds auditions at their school. Murray and Barry are upset the Philadelphia Eagles have been losing until superstitious Barry becomes convinced Beverly is their good luck charm.

Beverly forbids Adam to see the movie "Porky's," so Murray pushes him to break the rules. But the plan backfires when Beverly forbids Adam to use the phone for Valentine's Day. Meanwhile, Barry tries too hard to impress Lainey for the holiday using the music of Lionel Ritchie.

Dana comes to town, but has a hard time mustering up any enthusiasm for a "Weird Al" Yankovic concert Adam wants her to attend, which makes him think their relationship is coming to an end. Meanwhile, Erica and Barry take their new found knowledge as peer counselors and apply it to Murray, who they diagnose as depressed.

When Barry sees underdog Eddie the Eagle in the Olympics, he decides to popularize Ball Ball in order to gain respect at school. Meanwhile, Beverly catches wind that Murray's store sales are down and intervenes by selling the latest furniture craze….

Beverly helps Erica plan a "Dirty Dancing" themed dance at school, only to turn on Erica when she realizes it may be inappropriate. Meanwhile, Murray tries to learn dancing with Adam with little luck.

Adam schemes to get as many cassette tapes as possible from a mail-order music club, but when Beverly gets wind of this scam she points the blame at Erica. Meanwhile, Barry is determined to get closer to Lainey's dad, Bill, even though it's an uphill battle.

Inspired by David Copperfield’s walk through The Great Wall of China, Adam becomes a magician in order to impress a girl at school. Meanwhile, Barry has no interest in taking the PSAT, but when he discovers his friends and girlfriend plan to do so, he’s hit with a harsh reality.

Season 3

Adam works on his new persona for the first day of high school that he hopes will up his coolness level.  Meanwhile, Beverly gets her teaching certification to become a substitute teacher. But when she is demoted to sub-janitor, she sends the Goldberg kids to a Saturday detention.

Erica and Lainey try to find Bill a love match using some new dating technology and Adam's fillmmaking skills. But they face some competition from Beverly, who insists on taking an old-fashioned approach to matchmaking. Meanwhile, a "failed" aptitude test leads Barry to decide to pursue being a gym teacher as Coach Mellor's apprentice.

Erica and Adam follow the lead of Jan from "The Brady Bunch" when dealing with relationship problems; and Beverly reaches her limit when it comes to dealing with Murray's stubbornness after he causes her to miss the Beach Boys at Live Aid.

After getting their first-ever answering machines, Murray and Pop-Pop wage a message war on one another. Fed up, Erica, Barry and Pops try to stop the fighting by offering a trip to a hockey game as an olive branch. Meanwhile, Adam finally finds a lunch-time home with some lovable geeks in the computer room, but Beverly worries about his social standing and intervenes.

Adam decides to start writing horror stories after being inspired by Stephen King; when Beverly finds out that the monster in Adam's story is based off of her, she makes him stay home on Halloween to rewrite the story to depict her in better light.

After learning of Murray's love of action movies, Adam uses the moment to garner the courage to ask his dad for money to film his own action film. But the production goes from bad to worse when Barry goes missing for playing the lead, and an unlikely replacement steps in. Meanwhile, Erica takes Beverly to go clothes shopping. When a situation at the hip store goes awry, Erica decides to make her own version of the popular outfit she wants -using Beverly's own sweaters

A mutual love of "Knight Rider" brings Murray and Uncle Marvin to the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day parade to see the car K.I.T.T. in person. However, their bonding doesn't last long due to a slighted Adam. Meanwhile, Beverly's Turkey Day plans go awry after she invites Bill and Lainey to celebrate the holiday

Barry starts to make fun of Adam for wanting to join theater until he finds out that Adam and Lainey have been cast in roles that require them to kiss; Barry decides to sabotage the production by joining the stage crew.

When Adam attends a Globetrotters game, he falls in love with the “theatrics” of the team and tries doing his own tricks on the court. But when he cuts together a video that makes Barry look like he lost a game to Adam and his friends, Barry demands a rematch, culminating in an epic battle at the school gym. Meanwhile, it’s Murray’s 50th birthday, and, despite his protests, Beverly throws yet another surprise party for him but gets more than she bargained for.

After finding out there is only going to be one Hanukkah song in the Holiday Pageant, Beverly convinces Erica to create the perfect song to bring some excitement to the holiday. Erica sees her shot to break into the music business while Barry does his best to prove he too can be a hit maker with music. Meanwhile, Adam’s childlike wonder with movies and entertainment is called into question when things he loved as a child aren’t as good as he remembers.

Beverly substitutes for Barry’s chemistry class in hopes to inspire students in the same way as Mr. Keating from “Dead Poets Society,” much to Barry’s embarrassment. When Beverly refuses to give Barry special treatment, Murray pushes Barry to work hard and prove to her that he can get a good grade. Meanwhile, after accidentally embarrassing Emmy by reading a note about her in class, Adam enlists Erica’s help to be a better friend.

Adam and Barry learn about Murray's fear of snow when a snow day cancels school; the boys try to exploit Murray's weakness for their own ends and take advantage of him; Beverly find's Erica's college application.

Adam feels like he's losing his best friend, Chad, so he attempts to join the tennis team. When Chad picks Dave Kim as his partner, Adam vows to take him down with Barry in a tennis match, changeling Andre Agassi. Meanwhile, with the help of Beverly, Erica deals with her post-break up depression just in time for Valentine's Day.

When both Barry and Erica gets jobs working at Spencer’s Gifts, Erica gets jealous at how good of an employee Barry is. Meanwhile, Muray is thrilled that two of his children have jobs, so he insists that Adam gets one, despite Beverly’s adamancy that he should focus on filmmaking,

Beverly is on a mission to transform Adam into a teenage heartthrob after a local kid talent agent insists he’s only right for nerd roles. Meanwhile, Barry decides to go punk and Murray attempts to become more involved in Erica’s life, but it backfires.

Inspired by the "Karate Kid" films, Adam and the other Adam Goldberg face off in a karate match to settle once and for all a long-running feud. Barry and Adam go to Uncle Marvin for training, but the only thing they learn is how to clean an apartment. Meanwhile, when Erica and Geoff's relationship becomes public, they realize that they aren't the good guys.

Barry feels threatened when school deadhead Matt starts hanging out with the JTP and soon finds himself kicked out of the group when he becomes too controlling. Back at home, Adam uses a curse word which sends Beverly into a tail spin, even though she curses all of the time. To curb everyone’s behavior, a swear jar is created, with the money going to a vacation of the winner’s choice.

While Erica receives her college acceptance letters, Barry decides to become a doctor and looks at schools with good medical programs; Lainey announces that she is going to a school without a medical program, making Barry rethink his idea.

The Goldberg kids have big plans on prom night, all of which go awry. The night includes Barry's big romantic gestures for Lainey; Erica's attempt to go to prom with Geoff; and Adam being asked out by a nerdy but cute junior.

Barry feels left out, so he tries to create a divide between the relationship of Adam and Pops, while they debate the merits of a movie; Erica intentionally messes up her.

When Murray is honored as one of Jenkintown’s top businessmen, his plaque is hung on a wall with all of the other honorees. And soon Beverly is dismayed to learn he has no discernable hobbies, and her attempts to help him find some backfire. Meanwhile, Barry creates a scheme stealing golf carts, but the situation goes awry and Erica comes to save the day.

After TV movie “The Day After” airs, Barry takes matters into his own hands by attempting to convince Murray to build an underground bunker. When he says no, Barry tries one last attempt at getting Murray to change his mind. Meanwhile, Erica and Adam give over-the-top Mother’s Day gifts before making important requests to Beverly, but it ultimately backfires.

As the school year comes to a close, Barry and Erica wonder what they’ll be voted for in the yearbook and pressure Adam – who’s on staff – to see the rough layout before it goes to print. But when they accidentally delete it, mass panic ensues and messes up Adam’s relationship with Jackie.  Meanwhile, Murray is annoyed when Marvin comes to visit for money, but Beverly convinces him to help Marvin out with a plan, because he’s family.

Graduation Day is quickly approaching, and Erica cannot wait to get out of the house, until it dawns on her how much Beverly's love means to her. She attempts to delay her graduating so she can stay home. Later, Barry has plans for him and Lainey, but they turn to dust. Meanwhile, Dana makes a surprise visit just as Adam and Jackie officially become a couple.

Season 4

Beverly and Murray move Erica into college where her roommate is also named Erica. Later, Beverly has a hard time letting go and ends up sleeping over in the dorm, much to Erica’s dismay.  Meanwhile, Adam tries to give Barry the perfect girlfriend, even trying to build one like in the movie “Weird Science,” as he embarks into his senior year.

Adam is assigned a term paper on a great person in history, and he decides to make a movie about his grandfather but finds all of Pop’s war stories mundane.  Pops takes matters into his own hands and decides to tell more exciting stories based on an old television series. Meanwhile, Erica returns home to confront Beverly for over-mothering her. Murray insists Beverly teach Erica and Barry basic life skills, but she worries Erica and Barry will be too independent.

Beverly confronts Coach Mellor who reveals his strained relationship with his own brother Coach Nick, so she intervenes prompting Nick to face off with Rick. Adam and Barry join in, each one siding with one of the coaches. After a fight breaks out, Beverly points out to Adam and Barry this could be them as adults. Meanwhile, Geoff and Erica struggle with their relationship long distance.

With the children growing up, Beverly decides to reinvent herself and quits being a substitute teacher. She decides to focus her energy on going to night school so she can eventually own her own business. Murray doesn't like change or things costing money, so he convinces her to get a perm instead. Meanwhile, Erica struggles to balance her academic and social life in college and needs Adam's assistance.

After Adam and Jackie disagree over their Halloween costumes, Murray teaches Adam to be a shell of a man to keep Jackie happy; however, it backfires quickly also causing an issue for Murray and Beverly.

When The Ottoman Empire’s business declines due to a new furniture competitor, Adam offers to make Murray a commercial starring Marvin, but things go awry when Marvin’s actions mess up the original plan. Meanwhile, Beverly offers to help Barry as he keeps striking out as he attempts to get a girl at school.

During the holiday, Uncle Marvin reveals he has become a stockbroker and convinces Barry and the JTP to invest their money with him. Meanwhile, Erica tells Geoff she is in debt and gets swept up in the family investment. Later, Beverly invites 50 people over for a Thanksgiving potluck instead of stressing out cooking for the family.

It's a complete disaster when Murray takes Adam out for a driving lesson and they learn something new about Pops in the process. Meanwhile, Erica has a hard time making friends at her school and turns down a toga party invitation. When Barry arrives for a weekend visit, he quickly thrives on the social scene, easily making friends, unlike his sister. But a little pep talk by Barry helps Erica finally enjoy college.

Adam and Barry decide to write a song like the iconic “Parents Just Don’t Understand” and call it “Dads Just Don’t Care.” When they don’t get the reaction they expect from Murray, the boys take appropriate steps to make amends. Meanwhile, Beverly keeps calling Erica in college but she wants space from her mom. Beverly is forced to take drastic measures to change that.

Erica tells Beverly she is going to spend the first night of Hanukkah with Geoff and his family; Beverly worries and starts a competition for who hosts the best Hanukkah party; Barry seeks advice from Pops on how to be cool.

Afraid she’ll be all alone in her old age, Beverly attempts to bond with other moms to form their own group like the TV show “The Golden Girls,” while Erica gets annoyed at Geoff’s romantic gestures, almost causing them to break up.

Erica warns Geoff about going to dinner with her family to celebrate her birthday, but he insists. Upon arrival, it’s apparent this will be no ordinary dinner out. By evening’s end, Geoff hits his breaking point.

Adam tries to be funny in class but ends up distracting his woodshop teacher, who nearly injures himself when his tie is cut off so Murray grounds him. Meanwhile, Geoff and Beverly try to become more cultured so Erica will remain close when she decides she wants to attend a Phillip Glass concert but, in the end, they learn something surprising about Erica's taste in music. 80s band Hooters makes a special appearance.

Barry joins the football team but is quickly benched by Coach Mellor due to his lack of playing ability. He convinces himself the coach is testing him; but when Barry realizes the truth of his playing ability, Adam helps his brother understand there are other ways he can contribute to the team. Meanwhile, Beverly designs jackets that she tries to get Murray and Erica to sell when a national TV channel won’t.

Adam loves director Steven Spielberg so much and decides to film an original script he wrote about Indiana Jones and his passion for directing is called into question.  Meanwhile, Murray and Barry make a bet about whether or not a cheesesteak sandwich in New Jersey is the best one ever.

When Beverly gets a glimpse into a soon-to-be empty nest, she replaces her kids with the Mellor brothers, nursing Coach Mellor back to health after falling off the rope climb. Meanwhile, Erica and her college roommate get on each other’s nerves in their dorm room, especially when Valley Erica puts a scrunchie on the door and kicks Erica out.
