Sau khi thầy trò Đường Tăng rời khỏi nước Chu Tử, họ tiếp tục đi về phía tây, và họ đi đến phía trước một trang viện. Đường Tăng quyết định một mình đến hoá trai, một mình bước vào sân thì thấy bốn thiếu nữ đang thêu hoa và ba thiếu nữ đang chơi đá cầu. Khi Đường Tăng giải thích ý định của mình, bảy thiếu nữ đột nhiên tràn lên, bắt Đường Tăng vào trong hang động, trói Đường Tăng, treo lên xà, từ miệng họ nhổ ra những sợi tơ, dệt thành một tấm lưới lớn, rồi phong ấn cửa hang. Chờ lâu sư phụ không trở về Tôn Ngộ Không đột nhiên thấy sự tình không ổn, thế là niệm chú, gọi tới bản địa thổ địa thần, mới biết được sư phụ có khả năng rơi vào bảy vị con nhện tinh trong tay. Ngộ Không, Bát Giới cùng Sa Tăng bởi vậy đại náo Bàn Tơ Động cứu sư phụ.
